Avatar Dog Gives Pit Bulls New Image

I found this more than slightly freaky, but cute at the same time.  This is not chihuahua clothing, but I think those of you interested in them will enjoy this:

What better way to make over the bad PR this breed has than dressing them up in cute costumes of dogs and having little baby chicks jump up and perch on their backs?  Sounds like a plan to me,  lol!

Dog Costumes: a Joke, a Joy, and Always A Laugh

When it comes to dog costumes, I'm the kind of person who believes you have to either go all out with the costume and make a completely ridiculous scene with them, or not use them at all!  Think about it: if you come across someone who has a costume on their dog like this:

...it leaves people wondering "uh... did she really think that was going to look good on that dog?? oh my god!" and it can create this weird, awkward moment.  Now don't get me wrong: I'm all for those weird awkward moments!--but I think you'll have more fun with your dog and his little costumes if you take them all the way and you go over the top with them, like this;

or this:

If you come across a dog in a hot dog costume like that and you are going to FREAK out laughing: you won't be able to contain yourself. I don't know about you, but for me, getting that kind of reaction is a lot more fun than the weird and awkward one I mentioned above!

Just a thought. If you're wondering where you can find cool dog costumes like this, I believe you can find some here:

I'm not affiliated with those folks at all, but I've poked around their site and they look quality and I would probably buy from them if I were so inclined to die of laughter by dressing my chihuahuas up in little dog costumes!

Until next time, have fun with your dog clothes! -Michelle

Dog Cheerleader Costume Clothes - OH MY GOSH

I never thought I'd see something both this scary (seriously) and this adorable:

This is an image from a new dog costume store I just ran across here.  I can't claim any experience shopping from these folks, but they look legit and like the real deal and I'd trust them if I needed to buy one of their silly adorable costumes for my pooch ;)

Cheap Dog Clothes sometimes equal Itchy Dog Clothes?

I recently picked up a cheap parka coat for my little dog and it started to itch her like mad as soon as I dressed her up with it.  To comment on this and answer the posed question, I've written a little article on the subject that you can explore here:  http://www.chihuahuaclothes.co/cheap-dog-clothes/cheap-dog-clothes-avoid-an-itching-dog-by-trying-before-buying

Designer Clothing For Dogs, Now In Vogue

I recently came across this littler article by http://chihuahua.trainingcare.net that discusses one of the great joys of owning a small breed dog: the fact that you get to dress him up in the cutest fashions that not only keep him warmer, for his sake, but that look so intensely cute and adorable!

Is there anything cuter or more adorable than a Chihuahua’s little face peering out from under a little warm woollen hat?

No, author, there perhaps isn't anything more high-pitch-voice-inducing than a chihuahua in one of those cute little outfits from the specialty store... where there are 50 other chihuahua clothes nutbags just like me all there, crowding around, swooning and screeching over the adorable dogs walking around ;)

Using Dog Clothes as A Socialization Tool

I have a confession to make: I used to think that dog clothes were absolutely ridiculous.  I would see the dogs with their shirts and sweaters and those dorky shoes and the whole thing, and I would laugh to myself about how insane the owners must be to dress their dogs up like that.

Maybe it was just part of being young and hating the world in general, or maybe it was my deep affection for dogs that grew, or likely both, but I've changed my mind about those crazy dog clothes.  Today, I'm almost in love with the t-shirts and coats for dogs, and all those other cute little outfits and costumes we dress our pooches up in!

What I didn't realize until recently was the usefulness of dog clothes as a training tool, to help with a young dog's socialization with people.  I've been using dog clothes on my chihuahuas for a long time and this never dawned on me until just recently, as I dress my little dogs up to keep them warm, but their cute outfits actually help them out by drawing a lot of attention from passers by!  And this helps to keep them the very social chihuahuas that they are!

The Singing Chihuahua

I don't usually post stuff like this, but I can't resist; this is too cute.  The singing, chihuahua clothing-clad chihuahua.  If only all chihuahuas were this cute in their clothes and could sing like this... what a world it would be, haha!

Chihuahuas Feasting With Their German Shepherd Amigo

Breakfast time for the pooches wearing their chihuahua clothes and, now, their foster friend "Buddy" the shepherd mix.  This is in Mexico, land of the hot hot heat, both in spice and in climate, and still they need their clothes on to keep from shaking!  A lot of people ask "is this really necessary?--for them to be wearing this clothes in the heat?"  It is, oddly enough.  After they're indoors for a while or in the shade outside, chihuahuas will start to shake and shiver and, as a guy who loves his little fur munchkins dearly, I give them what they want: their warmth and comfort, haha.  Here's a snapshot of the pack just a few hours earlier today, chowing down:

Chihuahuas Living in Cold Weather?

I hear the question asked regularly (or some variation): "can I take my chihuahua to live with me in a cold place?"

It's a legitimate question because chihuahuas do tend to shiver and shake a lot when they're not in the heat--even when just in the shade for a while, often--and so owners worry about taking their little dog into a much colder environment.

The reality is that chihuahuas do fine in the cold, provided you wrap them up in a layer or two ...or three of clothing.  If you put a dog sweater on your chihuahua and then wrap a dog coat around him, he'll be fine.

I've lived in Canada with numerous chihuahuas and this has been the case with every single one.  Yes, they get cold without the clothes, but if you can pick up a few layers of chihuahua clothing for them, they stay warm and they do fine.

I've just written an article to cover my opinion on this on my main blog (link in my bio) that you can read, but the simple answer is "good news: yes, they can live in cold climates."
